# Draftside > Draftside is an open source writing editor that runs 100% offline. Chrome's built-in Gemini Nano powers inline completions, rewrites, alternate phrasing, and draft classification — all on your device, without a model backend. Draftside is a writing editor that runs in the browser, at https://draftside.ai/write/. Its AI features (inline completions you accept with Tab, rewrites, alternate phrasing, translation, chat about the draft, voice transcription and draft classification) run on the device through Chrome's built-in AI APIs and Gemini Nano. There's no account, API key or server-side model. It installs as a progressive web app and works offline once loaded. Requirements: - The editor and saved drafts work in any modern browser. - The AI features need Chrome, or another Chromium browser such as Edge, with the built-in AI APIs available. The first AI session can trigger a one-time Gemini Nano download of about 1–2 GB. Privacy: - Drafts stay in the browser's IndexedDB on the device and aren't uploaded. - AI prompts and responses go to Chrome's built-in AI APIs and run on the device. - An optional Private Vault encrypts drafts with AES-GCM, under a key wrapped with a passkey (WebAuthn PRF) plus a one-time recovery key. - The landing page (https://draftside.ai/) loads Google Analytics. The editor (https://draftside.ai/write/) doesn't. Draftside is free and open source under the MIT license. It's made by Colin Armstrong (https://armstr.ng). Each page on this site has a Markdown version at its address plus `.md`: `/index.md` for the home page and `/write.md` for the editor. A page's own address also serves that Markdown to requests whose Accept header prefers `text/markdown`. ## Docs - [Draftside home page](https://draftside.ai/index.md): what Draftside does, in Markdown - [Draftside editor](https://draftside.ai/write.md): what the editor page is and what it needs - [GitHub repository](https://github.com/seeARMS/draftside): source code and issues - [README](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/seeARMS/draftside/main/README.md): features, requirements, privacy model and development ## Optional - [Security policy](https://raw.githubusercontent.com/seeARMS/draftside/main/SECURITY.md): how to report a vulnerability - [Colin Armstrong](https://armstr.ng): who made Draftside
